Program overview
To up-skill and assist migrant women in the design, creation, production, marketing and distribution of a product which has unique cultural value to their own culture and is made to a high industry standard in order to be marketed and distributed by themselves.
This project aims to give migrants the opportunity to celebrate their own cultural background, life journeys and memories through any particular textile craft inherent to their own culture. With the intention of salvaging and revaluing culture through cloth, the Travelling Sewing Box Project has the objective to appreciate and celebrate the cultural value that migrants bring to New Zealand.
